I will never forget when Tim Kington said: “I have no idea what I’m doing”… and he was nearing 1-dan and studying with James Kerwin. Since then I had the impression that 1-dan players had huge lookahead and were bulletproof. Well, time to think again:

Dan level thought process:
“Oh god, what the hell is going on here? I guess this is weak maybe? Oh no wait, it isn’t weak, it’s alive already! Oh wait maybe not . . . Can I read out this fight? Nope, turns out I can’t! Gaaah I have no idea what is going on! Lets assume it’s weak and try to suppress the panic! Uh . . . I guess maybe here?”
Proceeds to play his next move.
